What is GIS?

Geographic Information Systems is a framework used to create spatial data, manage it, visualize it in maps, and analyze and discover data patterns in a spatial context (geographic position on the Earth’s surface).

Identifying the percentage of poverty in areas on the island of Sumatra based on analysis in GIS, using shapefile maps of the administrative boundaries of districts and cities on the island of Sumatra and data on the percentage of poverty at the district/city level.

Armed with a shape file of the administrative boundaries of districts and cities on the island of Sumatra and poverty percentage data, we can create a map of the distribution of poverty on the island of Sumatra with the help of GIS function operations. There are many many operations and functions within major operation types in GIS which are access, analyze, and map.
